SAGE has launched episode four of its podcast ‘Think Difference’, featuring CSIRO Chief Scientist Dr Cathy Foley FAA FTSE.
In this episode of the SAGE Think Difference podcast, you’ll hear Dr Foley reflect on her career in physics and how CSIRO is embracing diversity to solve the greatest challenges of our time. “You need to have the greatest minds to embrace human potential,” says Dr Foley, and that means embracing human differences.
CSIRO’s Diversity and Inclusion Strategy is at the heart of their entire operations. “We are really aware of having gender equality in everything we do,” says Dr Foley. The organisation received its SAGE Athena SWAN Bronze award in December 2018, and Dr Foley is leading the implementation of its Action Plan.
Dr Foley is the first dedicated Chief Scientist of CSIRO and has made outstanding contributions to Australian science by promoting and supporting science across the wider community.
One of the country’s top applied physicists, Dr Foley has made significant contributions to the development of field-deployable superconducting devices that locate valuable mineral deposits, as well as high-temperature superconductors.
Dr Foley has been recognised as one of our nation’s most distinguished scientists with her election to the Australian Academy of Science, announced on 25 May 2020.
