The SAGE Forum Summary Report has now been published, providing a comprehensive overview of the discussion from the November 2014 SAGE Forum and the key recommendations.
I am also pleased to let you know that the Academy is well advanced in its plans to conduct an Australian pilot of the Athena SWAN Charter; the key recommendation of the SAGE Forum. A project team is in place, an agreement with the Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) in the UK regarding use of the Athena SWAN materials and oversight of the pilot is close to finalised, and work to raise the necessary funding is underway.
We anticipate that a call for applications from Australian science organisations wishing to participate in this pilot will be circulated widely in mid-June, and that the two-year pilot involving 16–20 Australian organisations will commence in August. There will be a modest cost associated with participation in the pilot, and organisations wishing to be involved will require leadership endorsement as part of the application process.
In addition to running the Pilot, the Australian Academy of Science will also run various activities and events to promote SAGE and create awareness of our mission to improve gender equity in STEM. This will include an annual SAGE Forum (the next tentatively planned for early-mid 2016), as well as establishing a new website, newsletter and social media. Details will follow.
